Diego Hangartner

Coach, contemplative teacher, and writer. I work with leaders on internal navigation under complexity. Thriving through clarity.

Diego Hangartner is an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) based in Switzerland. He works with executives, founders, and organisational leaders on the internal capacities needed to lead well in complex, high-stakes environments — presence, clarity, ethical judgment, and sustainable performance under load.

His methodology, called RIGSEL (Tibetan for clear thinking), and the Diamond Cut framework built from it, bridge three domains most coaches never combine: lived experience leading and building organisations, decades of contemplative practice, and elite athletic training. The tagline that names the work: Thriving through clarity.

Background

  • ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) — the highest ICF credential.
  • Buddhist Dialectics — studied at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics (IBD) in Dharamsala. Over three decades of Buddhist practice.
  • Co-founder, Mind and Life Europe — the European arm of the organisation founded to bridge contemplative traditions and Western science.
  • Speaker and lecturer — including HSG (Business School St.Gallen), HSLU (Hochschule Luzern) executive education and HWZ Zürich (CAS Building Mindful Organizations).
  • Author — co-authoring a book on coaching and contemplative practice, forthcoming with Routledge.
  • Elite age-group cyclist — still competing at Haute Route Alps, Transalp, and comparable levels.
  • Languages — English, German, French.

What I offer

  • 1:1 executive and leadership coaching — long-form work with leaders navigating identity shifts, complexity, and the transition from doing to orchestrating.
  • Workshops and programs on mindful leadership — including Achtsam Führen in dynamischen Systemen (HSLU) and Building Mindful Organizations (HWZ Zürich, launching 2027).
  • Contemplative teaching — meditation as gom (familiarisation with one's own mind) and bhavana (cultivation of what decreases suffering and increases flourishing). Practical, non-fringe, health-relevant.
  • Speaking, writing, and methodology work — Diamond Cut articles, the forthcoming Routledge book, keynote engagements.

Signature frameworks

  • Two Methods — both are science. Western methodology looks outward (microscope, telescope). Contemplative methodology looks inward. Both real. Complementary. For mental flourishing, the inward method is not optional.
  • Inner Navigation vs. inner Sabotage. Sabotage is what runs when practice is absent. Navigation is what becomes possible when practice is present.
  • Evasion → Control as the culmination of practice. The four positions (Concern, Influence, Control, Evasion) name where you are. The work is traversing them — bringing what was evaded into the field of control — which cannot be willed, only practised.
  • Bridge knowledge and wisdom. Science to inform, not impress; wisdom to ground, not perform.

What I do not offer

  • Therapy. When material is genuinely therapeutic, I refer out. I coach; I do not treat.
  • Formulaic transformation. The work is patient and body-first. Insight without embodiment is not the work.
  • Sales-driven "transformation" programs. I offer; I do not sell. No urgency language, no funnels, no promises of guaranteed outcomes.

Common questions

  • What is Diamond Cut coaching? A methodology that translates contemplative practice into leadership capacity. It names patterns (Evasion, Innere Navigation, Zwei Methoden, the Kinderpony that follows) and builds embodied practices for them.
  • What is RIGSEL? Rigsel is Tibetan for clear thinking. It's both the name of the practice orientation and the underlying discipline of the Diamond Cut methodology.
  • Who is Diego Hangartner best suited for? Leaders in complex domains — executives, founders, senior clinicians, elite performers — who want more than technique. Also contemplative practitioners moving into leadership roles who want the two integrated.
  • What languages does Diego coach in? English, German, French. Session register — du-form or Sie, first-name informal or formal — is set per client.
